Is there a Reception?
Hatherley Birrell Collection operates keyless entry, with no need to check-in or check-out in the traditional sense. You will be emailed a personal code for access to the property prior to your arrival. If you have not received your code within a week of your arrival please contact us.
While there is no reception area, Jack and Rebecca Birrell operate their design business and live at the Hatherley House site, so someone is always close by and available for guests, along with a friendly Manager to meet and greet during office hours.
Due to the unique characteristics of century old buildings, some suites have limited access. Ballroom access is via stairs.
Are there communal areas?
Hatherley Birrell Collection respects that our guests value their privacy, and each guest room has it’s own outdoor space. Jack and Rebecca have restored the main house to it’s original use as a private residence, where they live with their two children, cats and dog.
Is there parking available?
Off street parking is available free of charge.
What time is check-in and check-out?
Check-in time is 2.00pm and check-out time is 10.00am. If you would like to ask about an early check-in or late check-out please contact us, we may be able to offer these, although it is dependant on other bookings.
Is the property non-smoking?
In the interests of the health and safety of our guests, Hatherley Birrell Collection is a non smoking property.
Is the property suitable for families?
Hatherley Birrell Collection is happy to accommodate children over the age of 12.

Serenity! Thanks so much for a wonderfully appointed room with old world charm and every comfort. Very relaxing and a lovely quiet location. Thoroughly delightful.
Everything is lovely here. Lovely and quiet and special stay. Thank you.
We have been completely blown away! What a beautiful spot! The views and the bath are incredible and of course the port. Thank you !
Driving around Tasmania has been full of beauty and surprises. La Petite Chambre Matisse has been one of them – and also unique. To enjoy its ambience, comfort and to be able to leave a little piece of us behind ‘in the colouring book’ makes this place memorable. PS exceptional breakfast – loved it!
Beautiful Tassie, Time is like the waves of the ocean that surrounds you, once passed it will never pass again and memories are etched into our minds – make a mark on the world, on people, friends and family. It is the only chance to make a difference. And this has been a lovely trip that has been forever etched into our lives. Rebecca and Jack, Thank You!
what can we say?? We had a very special and wonderful stay. Thank you so much
What a pleasant surprise! I have been coming to Launceston for work for many years and wish I had discovered this establishment before. Can’t wait to return. My hubby may even get a an invite next time.
Thank you for the gorgeous stay!
Fantastic space & facilities – pity we couldn’t stay longer – hopefully we’ll be back someday!
Dear Rebecca & Jack, Thankyou for this most wonderful stay. After a whirlwind trip from Hobart via Freycinet and St Helens, it was so nice to wake up every morning with this beautiful view. It has been such relaxing end to our stay and we will be sure to recommend you to others when staying in Launceston. Hopefully we will be back soon. PS the breakfasts were great! We really enjoyed them.
