Is there a Reception?
Hatherley Birrell Collection operates keyless entry, with no need to check-in or check-out in the traditional sense. You will be emailed a personal code for access to the property prior to your arrival. If you have not received your code within a week of your arrival please contact us.
While there is no reception area, Jack and Rebecca Birrell operate their design business and live at the Hatherley House site, so someone is always close by and available for guests, along with a friendly Manager to meet and greet during office hours.
Due to the unique characteristics of century old buildings, some suites have limited access. Ballroom access is via stairs.
Are there communal areas?
Hatherley Birrell Collection respects that our guests value their privacy, and each guest room has it’s own outdoor space. Jack and Rebecca have restored the main house to it’s original use as a private residence, where they live with their two children, cats and dog.

Thank you so much! We loved the design, style and serenity of the beautiful Magnolia Pavilion.
After a challenging round at spectacular Barnbougle Dunes Golf Course we meandered on towards Launceston, Historic Hatherley House awaited us, what a wonderful treat. Old fashioned elegance and grace fused with fabulous luxurious ‘mod cons’ were a perfect mix. It struck me as a quiet and private oasis. We stayed in the Ballroom Suite, its dance theme features a magnificent modern mural. There was plenty of room to dance if the spirit moved you. After a well earned spa, we enjoyed the mountain views with a drink on the balcony before strolling into the city for dinner. The area is known as Launceston’s Rose Bowl and it’s easy to see why. The historic gardens and leafy parks were bursting with colour. Delicious Tassie food and wine were plentiful, everything from quirky cafes to innovative 5 star dining. ‘Pierre’s’ on George St was our pick from many great looking choices. After our stay we were sorry to be leaving Hatherley, it had charmed us with it’s art, architecture and comfort. In a word superb. We’ll be back.
Had a lovely time once more….Loved it here…till next time!
We have returned to Hatherley House for our 10 year anniversary and what a lovely room to relax in! We love Tasmania, Launceston and your delightful boutique accommodation. Now to planning our return on our 20th anniversary. Thank you for your wonderful hospitality.
Fantastic space & facilities – pity we couldn’t stay longer – hopefully we’ll be back someday!

Rebecca & Jack, We had a great night at the Tasdance auction – thank you so much for making your magnificent home available! Love the Magnolia and looking forward to staying again!
Thank you very much for this delightful room and a restful, relaxing last night in Launceston for us. It is indeed as you describe ‘an immersive experience’ and connected us to the marvellous heritage in the streets beyond. It was so nice to have a delicious breakfast from the comfort of the room. Thanks again.
Thank you for your hospitality. What a beautiful room! I wish we had more time to enjoy it. Such a great find! The view from our room was beautiful, loved the grounds! Love everything about this place. Deb & Rod.
“A sensual and captivating experience, living art, living in art, tasting art, seeing and feeling art…The expression of another’s dream shared with others is a way of connecting the beauty in you to the beauty in me…tasting the food cooked by the famous chef in the artful home of the beautiful couple, drinking the Devil’s wine…aaaah, A sigh of joy, thankyou.”
