Hatherley Birrell Collection is Launceston’s most contemporary accommodation in one of the city’s oldest properties. Hatherley House is an 1830’s Italianate grand mansion listed on the National Estate Register. Two self contained suites are situated in one wing of the main house, where original 1830’s magnificence has been retained and juxtaposed with the ultra modern all within the sheer expanse of Hatherley’s English parkland garden as a backdrop.
New to the collection are two award winning garden pavilions nestled within the heritage gardens of Hatherley House. The pavilions are innovative in design, contemporary, eco-friendly retreats inspired by Chinese lanterns. Art filled and featuring moon windows within origami like roof forms, private outdoor areas complete with your own private outdoor stone bath each set within an exquisite garden setting. A stay in one of the garden pavilions will be an experience to remember.
These four accommodation options are located an easy 1km strolling distance to the city centre.
Hatherley Birrell Collection has a keyless entry and online booking system which ensures your complete privacy. Each room is self-contained with lush outdoor areas, includes locally sourced breakfast provisions, minibar provisions available for purchase featuring boutique Tasmanian wine, beer and cheese.
Dear Rebecca This haven you have is clearly a stand alone art space. It’s a brilliant idea and stretches the senses so positively. We found this experience very pleasing and a great setting in Launceston which is beautiful. We are going to come back as we are moving to Melbourne, so it’s not far to paradise! Thankyou for this uniqueness.
“Launceston’s most refined accommodation!” This collection of four suites in Launceston’s CBD by far out shines all other options. If you want luxury, comfort and above all a unique artistic approach then you will be doing yourself an absolute favour by choosing the Hatherley Birrell Collection. Whatever your specific requirements there is an option to suit. Location wise all four suites are approximately 15 minutes walk from the CBD or 5 minutes by car. I had the pleasure of staying in the Grand Ballroom suite and I was blown away by all the regal original fixtures of yesteryear but with all the modern comforts to create a haven of absolute relaxation and style. The ‘no reception’ concept is just fantastic. Very discreet and kind of James Bond Esque as you drive into the driveway and enter your unique code, the gate responds by swinging dramatically open to allow you to pass through and swiftly shuts again ensuring your absolute privacy amongst the gardens of the old Hatherley Mansion. Breakfast is awaiting you in the fridge in the morning with treats from local providore Alps and Amici. I have to say it was the best continental breakfast ever and it was my first port of call after checking out to go and purchase some of that ‘to die for’ muesli and yoghurt! If you are used to a more ‘up market’ style of travel and are struggling to find anything online in Launceston. Book Hatherley. I cannot recommend it highly enough!
A beautiful stay in the best and only place to stay in Launceston. Love the outdoor bath…decadently bathed 3x in 12 hours! Also must comment on the Ballroom where I have stayed numerous times. Gorgeously furnished and especially love the Tasdance photos…a reminder that Graeme Murphy the famous choreographer is a hometown boy. PS I was the first Asian in the Australian Ballet and Graeme choreographed his first three act ballet on me…Papillon! See you next year.
A magnificent stay at Hatherley Birrell Collection. Thank you to Rebecca and Jack for your amazing hospitality. The room was wonderful, so comfortable and cozy, absolutely perfect for my stay! I will certainly be visiting again in the very near future. Thankyou again!
Fantastic space & facilities – pity we couldn’t stay longer – hopefully we’ll be back someday!
A beautiful beginning to our honeymoon. I love coming home to Tassie. Your beautiful property absolutely showcases what Tassie does best! Stunning. Quality. Unique. Lots of love.
“A sensual and captivating experience, living art, living in art, tasting art, seeing and feeling art…The expression of another’s dream shared with others is a way of connecting the beauty in you to the beauty in me…tasting the food cooked by the famous chef in the artful home of the beautiful couple, drinking the Devil’s wine…aaaah, A sigh of joy, thankyou.”
Thankyou Rebecca, We’re in love with your beautifully detailed Teahouse Apartment and sad to leave.
In love with the place!!! Thanks so much
Father and son travelling in Tasmania. Wonderful places, vineyards and golf! Lovely restaurants (pierre’s) and mainly kindness. The Ballroom at Hatherley Birrell was AMAZING! We are living in Belgium, at the opposite of the world but we will come back!
